You do the writing/drawing/dripping…

We are enjoying our customers’ enjoyment of the clever Wreck This Journal: To Create is to Destroy, Now with Even More Ways to Wreck! by Keri Smith – and you! (Particular Books).
An interactive book is always a joy and a delight – pop-up books anyone? – and this one is just fantastic. It is what is says on the cover, a journal with a series of creatively and quirkily illustrated prompts, that encourage you to engage in “destructive” acts – poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, colouring outside the lines, and more – in order to experience the true creative process. My favourites? “Drip something here. (Ink, Paint, Tea) Close the book to make a print” and “sdrawkcab etirw” and…
…well, actually, each time you turn a page, you can feel the neurons sparking and you itch to follow or indeed, subvert, the suggestion. It is interesting how creativity can be enhanced by the restriction and discipline of instructions or the utter refusal to be so instructed – which path do you usually follow? Here’s a suggestion: why not do the opposite… The cover is suitably journally but do go and have a look here at some of the images people have uploaded – they are inspiring and exciting.
