Beloved creatures…

A wonderful book has just arrived in store: Judith Kerr’s Creatures: a Celebration of Her Life and Work (HarperCollins). As well as featuring the stories and drawings behind such well-beloved characters as the delightfully self-regarding Mog the Cat, the Pink Rabbit stolen by Hitler, and the suave, somewhat sinister Tiger Who Came to Tea, Kerr talks about her other ‘ creatures’, her families of origin and choice, who have so influenced her remarkable body of work.
I really enjoyed learning more about the decision to write a book about Mog’s death, Goodbye Mog – I remember when the book arrived here some years ago, it caused a sensation, not to mention a gulp, amongst the booksellers and the customers. This is a lovely book, you feel very privileged to get this glimpse into Kerr’s life and discover the secret histories, the behind-the-scenes lives of our old friends.
