The Lion and the Bird by Marianne Dubuc is another great book from Book Island. It is a kids book but the design is fantastic and the story is charming and poignant, so once again, grown-up people I know are going to be getting it as a present, because it is just lovely.
Lion finds an injured bird that he cares for when the bird’s flock departs for other shores. Together the friends build a life together over the winter but in the spring the flock returns and in the autumn, Bird just has to join his flock and fly away. What will Lion do? Will Bird return? What is the nature of friendship? How do you deal with loss?
A deceptively simple tale, which is slightly disquieting, illustrated in a dreamy, quiet way by this award-winning artist.
